SOCOTEC Group has a platform in Italy with 700 employees and has experienced strong growth momentum since its startup in 2018.

  • With the acquisition of IMG, SOCOTEC Italy is now worth more than 70 million euros and is positioned as a leader in the field of testing, inspection and monitoring for the Italian infrastructure sector.
  • This is the group's third acquisition in Italy in the last 18 months, after the purchase of TECNOLAB and EUROGEO.

SOCOTEC Italia, part of the SOCOTEC Group, an international leading group in Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC) services in the infrastructure and environment sector, has acquired 100% of IMG Srl, a company specialising in complex monitoring systems in the geotechnical and structural field. SOCOTEC Group employs more than 10,000 employees world wide and generated a turnover of €1 billion in 2021.

IMG was founded in Rome in 2004 and employs 50 experts, including geologists and senior engineers, with the best expertise in the design and supply of geotechnical and structural monitoring systems, and offers consultancy in the fields of geology, geological engineering, hydrogeology and field geophysics.

The acquisition of IMG strengthens SOCOTEC Italia's team of 700 professionals, particularly for the design, supply and installation of complex geotechnical and infrastructure monitoring devices as well as the automation of data processing and dissemination through the use of DDS (Data Dissemination System) a customisable Web-GIS system developed by the company. The company has developed and managed one of the most sophisticated and extensive monitoring and control systems in the world for the construction of Line C of the Rome Metro, installing more than 35,000 sensors and acquiring and managing over the last 48 months approximately 200,000,000 geotechnical and structural (static and dynamic) measurements regarding many historical buildings and monuments such as the Colosseum, Trajan's Column, part of the ancient Roman walls surrounding the historic centre of Rome and the Basilica of Maxentius.

Since 2010 IMG has been present in Poland, providing consultancy in the field of geotechnical and topographical monitoring and is involved in some of Europe's largest infrastructure projects such as managing the monitoring of the M2 line of the Warsaw Metro. In 2021, the company started producing monitoring instruments under its own brand name by collaborating with local specialised companies.

'We are thrilled to have IMG in our group to consolidate our position in the field of complex geotechnical and infrastructure monitoring systems in Italy. The group is expanding to confirm its mission of building trust for a safer and sustainable world" He continues: "In these nearly 20 years of activity the management and the entire IMG team has achieved great results becoming a reference point in the field of geotechnical monitoring for European construction companies. Together under the SOCOTEC brand we will strengthen the provision of high quality services to help our customers minimise uncertainty and risk related to infrastructure."

Massimo De Iasi, CEO of SOCOTEC Italy,

Hervé Montjotin, CEO of SOCOTEC Group.

"The sustainability of infrastructure and engineering structures is a crucial issue for economic development, regardless of country or continent. Building with respect to sustainable development issues and building resilient infrastructure require specialised expertise and innovative monitoring and surveillance technologies. With the acquisition of IMG, SOCOTEC Italia, Italy's leading infrastructure testing and inspection company, has further strengthened its monitoring expertise to support major customers in major projects in Italy and beyond. Today, infrastructure accounts for more than 30% of the SOCOTEC group's worldwide turnover. Monitoring is one of the services that SOCOTEC has developed in particular with key teams in the UK and France, who collaborate with the Italian teams."

Stefano Moretti and Ottavio Tripoli, founders of IMG:
