In July 2025, SOCOTEC Netherlands conducted architectural surveys in the Spoorbuurt neighbourhood of Nijmegen on behalf of contractor Infrascoop, a sister company of Ploegam. These surveys were part of the preparatory work for the neighbourhood’s public space redevelopment, which began after the summer.
Important information
- Projectname: Spoorbuurt redevelopment, Nijmegen
- Date: from 14 July to 18 July 2025
- Client: Infrascoop (a sister company of Ploegam)
- Location: Spoorbuurt, Nijmegen
Purpose of the architectural surveys
Architectural surveys provide an objective record of a building’s condition before any work begins. This is achieved through photographs and written documentation. The records serve as a reference point in case of any alleged damage during or after construction.
While the likelihood of damage is low, these surveys offer peace of mind for both the client and residents. Any claims for damage can thus be evaluated and resolved in a clear and transparent manner.
Phased redevelopment of Spoorbuurt
The Municipality of Nijmegen has been collaborating with residents and stakeholders to develop a future-proof plan for the neighbourhood. In August 2025, contractor Infrascoop (sister company of Ploegam) commenced construction activities.
The initial phase includes upgrading the sewer system on Koolemans Beynenstraat, Obrechtstraat, and Dunklerstraat to prevent flooding during heavy rainfall. This work is scheduled to continue until the end of 2025.
In spring 2026, network operator Liander will begin replacing the electricity network. This will be followed by the redevelopment of public spaces, addressing challenges such as sunken paving, tree root issues, traffic safety, and drainage improvements.
SOCOTEC Netherlands’ Contribution
Through these preliminary architectural surveys, SOCOTEC Netherlands plays a key role in preparing the project. Our independent documentation provides a reliable foundation for fairly and accurately assessing any damage claims. In doing so, we support the transparent execution of infrastructure projects and contribute to a safe and well-managed living environment for all stakeholders.
