PROJECT SUMMARY

In order to go ahead with the construction of a new highway intersection in the Federal state of Hamburg, SCHOLLENBERGER, a SOCOTEC company, has been commissioned to examine a 128,000 m² area in order to identify and remove any unexploded ordnance.

PROJECT DETAILS

The extension of the highway network around Hamburg is urgently needed to cope with the higher volume of traffic and mitigate the risks of traffic jams, longer travel times and higher CO2 emissions.

In accordance with § 8 KampfmittelVO, before the construction works of the "8-lane extension of the A7 Hamburg - Hanover" can start, the construction site needs to be cleared of explosive ordnance. SCHOLLENBERGER, a SOCOTEC company, has been commissioned to provide explosive ordnance detection services, which include:

  • the uncovering of anomalies up to 2m below ground level,
  • the ancillary services required to carry out the explosive ordnance detection for the 8-lane extension of the A 7 with a route length of 3.7 km including the A 7 / A 26 motorway junction to the west of the tunnel structure (0.79 km of which on the Hamburg territory).

This project will require the drilling of approximately 73,000 boreholes.
